Delegates from Eastern Michigan University Visited BGU

On May 25th, on the occasion of the second anniversary of the establishment of Eastern Michigan Joint College of Engineering (hereinafter referred to as the BEEC) at Beibu Gulf University, a delegation of four led by Mr. James Smith, the President of Eastern Michigan University (EMU), paid a visit to BGU. Affected by the Covid-19, this is the first offline meet-up between the leadership of both institutions since the establishment of BEEC. This meet-up will surely add new impetus to both sides' progress towards higher level cooperation and achieve higher quality development, and will become a new milestone in the advancement of BEEC.

The delegation from EMU, and leadship of BGU led by Mr. Han Junfeng, Secretary of CPC BGU Committee, and Mrs. Lv Qing, Consultant from the Office of Foreign Cooperation and Exchange, Department of Education, attended the unveiling ceremony of the iconic building of EEEC. Mr. Tang Gaohua, member of the Standing Committee of CPC BGU Committee, Vice President, and Dean of the United Engineering College, presided over the ceremony.

President Smith first thanked for the hospitality from BGU, and expressed his gratitude to the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Qinzhou Municipal Government for their strong support in promoting Sino-US cultural exchange. He stated that he always prioritizes the advancement of BEEC, and in order to safeguard the healthy and sustainable development of BEEC, he will do his best to listen to opinions, remove obstacles, and solve problems in the future. Meanwhile, he hopes to fully utilize the academic and cultural bridge between the two institutions, and further establish a long-term cooperative relationships and promote the development of diversified education, and cultivate more globalized technical talents.

Mr. Han Junfeng stated that BGU attaches great importance to internationalized education and has taken a series of measures in talent cultivation, teaching faculties enhancement, academic communication, etc., striving to create an atmosphere of internationalized education, forming a new pattern of multi-level, multi-channel, and all-round internationalized education, and enhancing BGU’s international competitiveness. He hopes to take this opportunity to further enhance friendship, mutual trust, and deepen cooperation between the two universities, jointly promote BEEC to achieve new achievements, and set up a model in the field of Sino-US cooperative education in Guangxi.

Mrs. Lv Qing fully affirmed the achievements of BEEC. She hopes that both sides would further strengthen cooperation and communication, achieve high-quality development of international education, promote the construction of BEEC as a benchmark for Sino-foreign cooperative education institutions in Guangxi, and further promote the internationalization of education in Guangxi.

The heads of relevant administrative departments and faculty, as well as the staff of BEEC, representatives of Chinese and foreign teachers, and student representatives, witnessed the important moment of unveiling.


President Smith expressed gratitude for all dedication and hard work for Sino-US cultural communication.
